Child Sponsorship Program

How Does it Work?

Look at the children on our web site. Once you find a child you would like to sponsor, just click to add that child’s school fees cost to your shopping cart. You can either pay for the entire year’s cost, or pay by term if the dollar amount is larger.

Can I Correspond With My Sponsored Child?

You will be this child’s only sponsor. You can email your child a letter by sending an email to Rose Ochwo, Pit-tek’s director. Rose will personally deliver your email to your sponsored child. Information on how to do this will be mailed to you in your sponsorship packet. Your child will send you a letter at least two times per year.

What Do I Receive as a Sponsor?

As soon as we receive notice of your sponsorship selection and payment, we will mail you a complete sponsorship package. This package will include a picture of your child, more detailed information on how to correspond with your child and how to develop an ongoing mentoring type relationship with that child. You will receive either annual or term reminders when future school fees payments are due for your child. At least once per year, you will receive an updated picture and updated child history on your sponsored child and his/her family.

How Long am I Committing to Sponsor My Child?

Our expectation is that you will commit to being the child’s sponsor for at least one year. We hope that you will find this to be such a rewarding experience that you will want to continue to sponsor the child for much longer. However, we realize circumstances do change. If that happens, and you need to discontinue your sponsorship, please let us know as soon as possible, and we will try to find another sponsor for your child. We are never able to refund any monies already paid.

Can I Send Gifts or Other Items to My Child?

You may send additional money to your child using the procedures specified in your sponsorship packet. You may also send a written letter, pictures, postcards, stickers, etc. via airmail to your child c/o the Pit-tek organization. Mail usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to arrive. But please be aware that occasionally mail does not arrive at all, particularly if there was something attractive inside the package. Letters only, or letters with items of little or no value have a better chance of arriving safely. We discourage including anything of value or bulk inside your letter, and cannot be responsible for any items that fail to arrive.

How Do I Know My Money is Used for School Fees?

Each school term, Pit-tek will use the sponsorship monies to pay the schools involved directly for school fees and any other fees charged by them. Receipts will be obtained from the schools to evidence the payments made. Pit-tek’s director, Rose Ochwo, is responsible for obtaining and keeping all such receipts. Purchases of uniforms and supplies will be made via group shopping trips with the children or by giving the parent the money if a group trip is not feasible. Receipts will be obtained from the parent if at all possible.

Can I Sponsor More Than One Child?

Yes, we would encourage you to sponsor more than one child if you are financially able to do so. We have many children of the beaders who need sponsors. We will add these additional children to the web site once the current group of children is sponsored.

Can I Just Make a One-Time Donation for School Fees in General?

Yes, just click one of these boxes below if you would like to make a one-time donation to our general school fees fund.
