Gloria

Age 14
Primary 5 (Day)

Gloria lives with her mother, six siblings plus four cousins from an aunt who died of AIDS. Her father died in a car accident.

The family has lived in the Kitgum area for the past six years after they left their original village six miles from here because of the rebels. Her youngest uncle was abducted by the rebels ten years ago and so far they have not heard anything about him.

The mother earns a small income from making a local brew. The family is part of the World Food Program but only gets a certain ration that lasts for two to three weeks. The family has no crops or animals or other food source. Currently, 8 of the 11 children are in school. Three are not in school including one child who is HIV positive.

Gloria’s favorite subjects in school are social studies and English. She wants to be a doctor. She helps her family by cooking and dishwashing.

In any spare time, she does homework and also plays netball. She hopes for a sponsor that would write to her.

Your sponsorship of Gloria will allow her to remain in school and would help provide additional mentoring support for Gloria through correspondence with her
