Zuberta Hussein Age 12 Primary 6 Zuberta lives with her grandmother in a rented, self-contained sitting room and bedroom in the Walukuba section of Jinja. There are two other younger grandsons also living in the household. Both Zuberta’s parents died of AIDS and her grandmother is a widow also suffering from AIDS. Zuberta’s grandmother moved from Attiak in the Gulu district, to Jinja about 20 years ago as a refugee from the war in northern Uganda. All her grandmother’s siblings died in the war. Her grandmother earns a small income from a hand embroidery business. She sells her products door to door. In her home, Zuberta helps the family by fetching water, watching her two younger brothers, and learning to cook. She enjoys singing, music and drama at her school and church. She also likes to read. Zuberta is an average student in school. Science, math and English are her favorite subjects. Zuberta is a very friendly, outgoing person and aspires to attend the university once she completes secondary school.
