Sida Alice
Age 10
Primary 3 (Day)
Sida lives in Gangdyang near Kitgum with her mother,
six siblings and 2 adopted children of her mother’s brothers who were killed by
the rebels. Her father is dead.
Before the war, her family lived 40 km from Kitgum in
a village that was attacked by the rebels who killed one uncle and one was in the
bush for seven years. This forced the family to move closer to town. Her mother
works ten hours a day doing a variety of things to allow the family to survive:
for immediate income for food, she gathers firewood in spite of the risk of land
mines, then she will also do quarry work, and help brew a local alcohol beverage
three times a month. She is also doing some bead making.
Sida is an above average student in school usually around
27th out of 190. She likes English and wants to be a nurse. She enjoys playing games
with friends.
Sida helps
the family by washing dishes, and learning
to cook. She can now make porridge. Your sponsorship of Sida will allow her to continue
in school and will help decrease the family’s financial stress. The family faces
continual problems of finding enough food and paying school fees.
