Oluproot Matthew Age 7 Primary 2 Oluproot is the youngest of 3 children in his family. He lives with his mother and siblings in a small rented garage in the Jinja area. His mother is single and a widow, and has no one else to support her and her family. She came to Jinja in 1989 from Kochgoma in the Gulu district of northern Uganda because of the war. His mother used to cook and clean for a well to do family in town but has had no steady work since this family returned to India two years ago. She now earns a little bit of money by selling charcoal and groceries very early in the morning Monday through Saturday. Oluproot is an above average student who was 4th out of 184 students in his level last year. He likes studying, playing football, and playing with friends. He helps around the house by washing dishes and running errands.
